During the last 5 years QSA has dedicated lots of efforts in the development of new eco conception technologies. Apart of equipment where we have been successful , another interesting way of providing improvement in heat treatment process with green approach has been to work with new brand of vegetable oil.
This has been possible thanks to the collaboration with our partner Fratelli Parodi s.r.l, based at Genova, Italy.
This company is well known as European leader in providing highly quality vegetable raw materials to most important companies in the market of lubricants, cosmetics, medical, ecc…
With a dedicated team we could explore together the possibilities of using a special source of vegetable oil in the heat treatment market and very quickly it has become a real success everywhere were we could apply the new green quenchant.
Since that time , we could get success in applications such as :

This product along with its patented equipment control is a real response to the new challenges of getting green technologies in our heat treatment market and facts have proven that Vegetable oil could get even better results than polymer quenchant in most of the applications which means something…
Naturally , the mineral quenching oils, polluting and toxic products, are directly the products which should be substituted by the vegetable oil now and in the near future.
The experience done with the open tank quenching and the great results
obtained with Biotemproil, the satisfaction of customers and the increasing environmental specifications, persuade us to develop a product properly made for the carburizing.
The product has a lot of peculiarities:
• High Flash Point (~300°C);
• Excellent clean-ability;
• NO vapor phase, which allows great homogeneity during quenching;
• High cooling rate in the first step of quenching, which permits to reach
The best mechanical properties;
• Low cooling rate in the critical temperature range of martensitic
Transformation, which allows lower distortions than mineral oil.
All of this joins with the innumerable advantages of an ecological,
biodegradable, renewable and sustainable product.
- Results after QSA revamping has allowed to reach values of 95% martensite up to 0,6;lsquo;’ depth ( even in the thicker section)
but in any case to guaranty a minimum of 0,3; depth in any location of the part
Quenching of carburized gears without need of press quenching as it was needed with mineral oil .in the same installation. Results of flatness are equals as the ones when quench under press with mineral oil but in our case the productivity is much higher and cost of process really less.
It was done a test to validate the real effectiveness of bioquenchoil vs Mineral Oil about distortion behavior, with the same boundary conditions. These are the results after tempering at 180°C:
Our quenching oil bioquenchoil has a very low environment at the contrary of mineral
quenching oils .
It represents the FUTURE for all the quenching applications where we should use oil because it has
been formulated with a vegetable base raw material only. This oil is highly biodegradable and with its
very high FLASH POINT (above 290°C), it is giving a high safety of use for the operators.
The vegetable oils are not classified harmful , neither carcinogenic at contrary of mineral oil
Bioquenchoil is a natural product and it is not containing any PAHs ( Polycyclic
Aromatic Hydrocarbons)
which are very harmful and present in the mineral oils
subject to quenching operations.
The mineral oils are part of the categories 1 & 2 of the organization IARC with a
known classification to be
likely carcinogenic for humans
bioquenchoil is certified "FM Approved", which means that the use of that product
allows to the company
to get insurance contract at lower cost
as far as risks of fire are concerned

When it needs to be treated if required, it becomes an ordinary
urbana product which can
be converted in Biodiesel. We are able to provide this service if necessary .
